Since it is inevitable that I will loose my hair, I decided that it might be good if I shocked myself and others with a very short haircut before it all falls out. It also should make the whole messy thing of loosing hair a bit easier. So, I took the plunge and cut it really short. Many of you are curious to see what that looks like, so I am including a before and after picture with this post. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the many thoughts and prayers. Today is a beautiful day filled with sunshine and warm air. How can anyone get down when nature helps so much to bring us up. Take care all! - S&S

Oh my God, you look amazing! You should’ve done this years ago when you were in Florida and needed to be cool!
I want to let you know that we’re all thinking about you and sending hopes and prayers your way. Spencer says his prayers every night and now he includes you in them. (So funny to have him try to describe who you are to God.) Drop me an email and I’ll get some photos out to you.
Be as strong as you always are. You and Scott are always in my thoghts.

As a cancer patient myself, I am taking the short hair plunge too. My hair goes past my waistline and has for over a decade… so I’m getting it cut short and donating the braids to wigs for kids with cancer. I am however, decided that if this is my first haircut in 17 years, it had better be a good one….lol. I think you look great and very courageous. I’ve done surgery and radiation myself already… doing some of my treatments backwards. Look into Cancer Treatment Centers of America, their patient treatment model is just amazing and they have been fabulous to me… just an idea. Good luck! I think the new cut is great.

Hey, We are finally back on line! Seems that you don’t look too so very bad with short hair. Maybe you’ll get curls when it grows back!

I love it! It really looks great on you; younger looking too. I bet it’s easy to take care of? Keep on posting and I’ll keep on reading. Take care of yourself - be strong. Tell Scott I said hello.
Love you guys,

I love it! Like everyone else says it looks good on you. I cut my hair short in March because my kids were telling me I had an afro. Yours is a little shorter than mine. I’ve discovered short is good. I think about ALL of you all the time. You will overcome this and become stronger than you already are. You can handle Scott so you can handle anything. Take care. You have Scott have a good walk on the Fairbanks Relay for Life. Love all of you.

Hi Shauna,
I REALLY do like your hair cut. It is refreshing looking. I am thinking about you & Scott and hoping that some of my positive thoughts melt some of the cold away (I’ve heard Alaska is the best in June - I went last year and it was so nice I got a sunburn!)
BTW - it’s Shelley - Stewart, I don’t work at the center anymore, once you left things just weren’t the same!

See, now you know why some of us wear our hair that short all the time!
Shelley told me what was happening, and you are definitely in my thoughts. The health issues are not something those of us so young (or anyone!) should be having to deal with (I just had coronary stent #5 - ick), but these days it’s something that at least, blessedly, there are treatments for. If anyone can get through this with a great attitude it’s you!
Still hanging around CTE, but working for the Grad School as a RA this summer also. Anthro’s going great, I should be ready to take my quals in summer or fall 2008.
Take care, and know that lots of love is coming from Florida!

Shauna,
I was surprised when your mom and dad told me about your breast cancer. By the way, your mom and dad, Tyrell and myself had a marvelous lunch together!! Anyway, I think you look adorable with short hair. But, I bet you’ll even look adorable with no hair. You know I have seen a few very attractive bald women. Anyway, there is this website you may want to check out: www.hatandhair.com. They have some cute hat and hair designs! Our thoughts prayers are with you and Scott as you are going through this challenging time. Keep your strength, determiniation, and faith and you will get through this just fine. Love, Debbie, Jim and Tyrell

Hi Shauna. The short hair is a great look! I hope you get better soon. You and Scott are in our prayers. Take care and get well soon. I have one more class to go and then my quals. I KNOW you will get well soon. Stay strong. Best wishes, Cassie and Neil.

Hi Shauna,
What a great idea to get your hair cut short. It really does look cute! I love it.
We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. Hope you continue to feel good. I know you will beat this. You aced all your tests and quals, so you will conquer this too.
We’re going to New Mexico and southern Colorado this fall, so we’ll get a taste of western mountains instead of Florida flatlands. Can’t wait to see the scenery. The trip is our gift to each other for our 25th Anniversary in June. We’re just putting it off till the fall.
Thanks for the blog and sharing this with us. Wish I could see you, but the hugs will have to be virtual ones. lol
Love,
Carol and Walt

Hi Shauna!
Obviously you’re one of those chicks who can do anything to her hair and still look great. I’m not bitter about that, though. Hey, if you think you might lose it anyway, now’s the time to experiment with different colors, right? =D (Or at least pretend you did and post doctored photos–we’ll never know!)
Hope you are feeling good these days. Don’t forget to update us a little, even if it’s something else — I’m sure you and Scott must still have many interesting irons in the fire.
best wishes, ang

Hello from Florida….
Mel and Dick told me of your challenge and gave me this blog site to talk to you. I was bowling in the State tournament at BCB this past weekend and JJ,Milka, and Virginia asked about you. I hope you don’t mind me giving them this blog and or your email address. We miss you and Scott. It’s just not the same without you two. Tell Scott the girls miss him but keep moving a little bit more to the south every day. Not a pretty sight! If/when you have time, drop a line on my email. I’d like to share some thoughts with you.
From one survivor to a future one….
Love to you both.
