October 2007

Day four of our trip started off in Fort Nelson Alberta. After our first showers of the trip, we headed off at about 8:00 am. So far we have completed 1,157 miles of the 3,600 mile trip. We have not had good internet connections, so this blog post is being made after the fact. As usual in this area of the country, there were animals to see and beautiful scenery. The weather started to cooperate, so we kept moving to make it a long day. We hit Edmonton headed for Calgary after dark to discover that Edmonton does not believe in good signage on their roads. After a short time of wondering lost on the highways, my chemo riddled brain remembered that I had printed out directions from Mapquest. With these and a bit of luck, we found our way to the south side of Edmonton and were able to move on. We were now ahead of schedule, but it was late, about 11 pm. We started to get a motel room, but the trailer would not fit into the parking lot or the driveway. After backing out of the lot, we saw a wonderful thing… A Walmart… Knowing that Walmart has a policy that travelers can overnight in their parking lots for free, we joined a few other overnight campers and setup for the night. The wind was blowing quite a bit by this time and the trailer was buffeted a bit, but we had no trouble sleeping. Today we traveled 685 miles. We have now traveled 1,842 miles. Look forward to more on the travels of Scott and Shauna as I have time.

S&S

Not much time to write but wanted to let you all know where we are. We are in North Dakota and leaving in a few minutes to head to Madison. It is an 8 hour drive, so we may only make it part way tonight. Lots has happened, but I will leave that for a later post. Hope everyone is well.

S&S

With a bit of a late start, we headed out of Fiarbanks at about 1:00 pm on Tuesday. It was a good day and we enjoyed the drive for a while. Between Fairbanks and Tok, we saw two young moose by the side of the road. Once we passed Tok, it began to snow. The roads became pretty bad and we were driving in heavy wet snow once we reached Canada. So, we stopped short of our goal for the night, staying in Beaver Creek. We pulled into an RV park with a cafe. We had a quick dinner and then plugged in our trailer in for the night. We slept warm and comfortable while the snow pilled up overnight.

On day two, after Scott shoveled the trailer off so we could pull in the slide out, we started from Beaver Creek (Yukon) at about 9:30 am. The roads were a bit bad, but we made decent time. The scenery was great as it always is in this area. We only saw a few animals, but there was a Black Bear and a fox. We quit about 7:00 in Teslin (Yukon). Where we found a nice campground there and plugged in. There was a nice lake at the campground and we got there just in time to take a few quick pictures. It was quite beautiful. I will upload pictures as I get time and a good connection.

Day three started in Teslin. We were on the road by 8:30 am. The day started with snow, but it did not last long. Overall the roads were pretty good today. Wild animals were out in abundance. First we saw an Eagle that flew next to us at window height for a bit. Then we saw, a black bear, caribou, deer, mountain sheep, buffalo, elk, and wild horses. We enjoyed wonderful vistas, but since the day was so overcast and there were few good places to pull over, we only got a few good pictures (stay tuned for later uploads). We made it to Fort Nelson (BC) tonight around 7:00 pm. We decided to treat ourselves to a hotel room, dinner, a cold beer and a shower in that order! We hope to get a good night sleep and head out early tomorrow morning. We are about 200 miles behind schedule, so we hope to catch up a bit.

We will write more later as time and internet connections allow. We miss those in Fairbanks and look forward to seeing those in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin! - Good Night! - S&S
